Thessalonians Five Eleven Foundation just ended its first official year in 2023.
Thessalonians is a small foundation – remember that when you look at the financials – but had a big impact!
In January, I was able to finalize its establishment with all government entities.
February through May, I was sidetracked by my work life because, for some reason, the government likes their tax money.
In June, I became aware of an individual who had nothing. They were sleeping on an inflatable bed on the floor. Thessalonians, with the help of its generous supporters, provided a bed, dresser, dining room table, living room furniture, dishes, pots and pans, silverware, glassware, utensils, small television, etc. In addition, many kind-hearted individuals aided Thessalonians with an assortment of other donations: lamps, bakeware, and other miscellaneous furnishings. I cannot remember all the items, as it was an overwhelming response. Seeing so many people coming forward to help someone they did not know was heart-melting!
My favorite Christmas gifts to buy are those for children whose families need assistance. Thessalonians monetarily, and with toys, helped Arbutus United Methodist to aid in their generosity in assisting two local families. The number of gifts they delivered through everyone’s help was phenomenal. I was glad we were a part of such an act of love!
Since Thessalonians is a faith-based organization, which derives its name from a biblical verse, bibles were provided to anyone assisted, homeless individuals, or anyone that do not have access to one.
Speaking of the financials:
- 70.6% of donations went directly to programs for those in need.
When reviewing the financials of a non-profit organization, you want to see your money funding the needs of those you want to help. I have seen some multimillion-dollar organizations have only 5% in direct costs to those in need.
- 25.4% was overhead costs, which will improve this year.
There will not be the registration fees and advertising should be half of last year.
I have learned a lot through this experience and have plans to improve procedures to assist more individuals in upcoming years!
Thank you for your continued support and always remember:
“…encourage one another and build each other up…”
